Mina Abdullah Refinery

Mina Abdullah Refinery

Mina Abdullah’s refining capacity of 454,000 bpd, supported by 42 new and 2 upgraded units, ensures competitive edge and meets diverse market demands, producing ultra-low sulfur diesel (10 ppm) for the most stringent markets.

Established in 1958 by the American Independent Oil Company (AMINOIL), Mina Abdullah Refinery (MAB) has evolved into a symbol of corporate excellence.

The State of Kuwait assumed full ownership in 1977, marking a significant step towards nationalization, and in 1978, MAB transitioned under the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).

A pivotal moment in MAB’s history was the 1988 Refinery Modernization Project (MAB RMP), which incorporated advanced technologies to produce low-sulfur products.

In 2022, the full commissioning of the Clean Fuels Project (CFP) further modernized MAB, equipping it to produce high-quality, eco-friendly petroleum products that meet stringent international standards like Euro-5, with minimal pollutants.

The Modernization Project has significantly improved energy efficiency, operational reliability, and safety, reducing operational interruptions and unscheduled shutdowns.

Enhanced Atmospheric Residue Desulfurization Units (ARDs) have boosted MAB's capacity to convert low-value residues and fuel oil into high-value products, maximizing the value of national hydrocarbon resources.
